Health Surveillance

Health Surveillance is a statutory requirement and is concerned with the continuous monitoring of the health of an employee to detect the onset of work-related illness. Examples include:

Audiometry (Hearing) Testing

For employees who are regularly exposed to noise above 85db. Audiometry testing is performed and results monitored in accordance with The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005. We have our own portable equipment, all we require is a quiet room.

Lung Function Testing

For employees exposed to respiratory sensitisors that could potentially cause occupational asthma. Lung function testing is carried out as per The control of Hazardous Substances Regulations (COSHH) 2005. All equipment and consumables are supplied.

Hand, Arm or Whole Body Vibration

For individuals regularly exposed to maximum exposure limits of vibration and those employees already suffering from HAVS. Control of Vibration at Work regulations 2005.

Skin Surveillance

For employees who are exposed to hazardous substances that could potentially cause skin problems such as occupational dermatitis. Health surveillance is carried out in accordance with The Control of Hazardous Substances Regulations (COSHH) 2005.

Forklift/Driver Assessments

The health surveillance required will depend on the type of vehicle. Employers should be able to satisfy themselves that their drivers are fit and healthy to drive safely, so not to put themselves or others at risk. More information can be found in the HSE guidance Driving at Work 2003.

Night Working Assessments

Employees who regularly work between 2200hrs and 0600hrs are classes as night workers. Under The Working Time Regulations 1998, these employees should be offered regular night worker assessment before they start working nights.

Confined Spaces Assessment

For employees working in confined spaces such as storage tanks, silos and sewers, health surveillance includes a questionnaire, lung function and other appropriate assessment. The confined Space Regulation 1997.
Sickness Absence Management
The productivity and profitability of an organisation can be seriously reduced as a result of employee sickness absence.

MC Health can assist in returning employees to work following short term or long term sickness absence. We can advise on rehabilitiation and offer advice for any reasonable adjustments that a can accomodate and support your employees. MC Health offer immediate support, help and advice, keeping the client informed throughout the process.

Health Screening

Health Screening involves the establishment of an employee’s health prior to engagement with a task or exposure to a hazard. For more information about health screening.

This is not a legal requirement but health screening should be proactive, preventative, evidence based and determined by risk assessment and approved code of practice. Health Screening is considered ‘good practice’ and an effective way of promoting a healthy lifestyle and the early detection of non-occupational disease, these include:
